International Maritim Museum Hamburg

The distinct features of the IMM, such as low ceiling heights, require a sophisticated combination of lighting and indoor climate technology within a very limited space.

Light is a major design feature within the exhibition rooms. Visitors have the impression of being on the lower decks of an old ship. The gentle lighting creates an atmospheric mood which takes the visitors on a discovery journey. Light structures the decks and deliberately directs the focus on the exhibits. The type of lighting is determined by the individual object and holds the balance between aesthetics and operating efficiency.
