La Grande Galerie de l'Évolution

A competition initiated the reconstruction of the Museum of Natural History in Paris’ “Jardin des Plantes”, one of the major projects of the “Grands Travaux”. The exhibits in the large central hall, elephants and whales, used to be illuminated by daylight through a glass roof.

ULRIKE BRANDI LICHT developed the “ciel actif”, a roof that quotes effects of the outside world inside the building. This protects the exhibits from the harmful influence of daylight. Some techniques used in this project, such as light injected into fiberglass and glass edges, are still highly relevant today.
