Light islands, targeted facade lighting, and green landscape elements transform the Domshof into an inviting oasis.

Ulrike Brandi Licht has played a decisive role in shaping Bremen’s downtown over the past 30 years—we designed the lighting for the downtown area, as well as the facade lighting for City Hall, the Cathedral, and the Church of Our Lady. We’re still working on the Domshof. The new design brings together various elements across the large space: the landscape sculpture, the long bench, and the pavilion.

The lighting concept is divided into three areas: general lighting for safety and usability, facade lighting, and lighting for the new landscape sculptures. Three landscape elements structure the square, introduce greenery, and create spaces for playing, strolling, and relaxing. In the evening, the sculptures glow as islands of light. Spotlights highlight the 21-meter-long bench, while the trees receive only reflected light. This helps us avoid light pollution. We also illuminate the mounds, steps, and pavilion in a targeted manner. This creates a friendly, lively atmosphere.

In this way, we foster a pleasant atmosphere, safety, and a sense of identity—all while protecting the starry sky above Bremen.
